SUMMARY:"Thinking Big Is What We Do" History Walk
DESCRIPTION:Explore the outdoor display and view large-scale reproductions of tall-tale postcards.\n\n\n\nTall-tale postcards became popular at the start of the twentieth century. Modified images like the ones seen in this outdoor display were created when photographers took two prints: one of a background landscape\, and another close-up of an object that was cut out and superimposed onto the first. The results are playful pictures in which strawberries reach the size of boulders and fishermen grapple with whale-size catches. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nNote: For hours\, admission\, and pricing\, please contact the hosting venue. SUMMARY:Great Lakes Small Streams: How Water Shapes Wisconsin
DESCRIPTION:Explore this water-themed traveling display that showcases Wisconsin’s long relationship with water and the impact we have had on our waterways.\n\n\n\nIt is impossible to fully understand Wisconsin – its history\, culture and prospects for the future – without an appreciation of water’s power to create opportunities\, influence decisions and shape the events that become our shared story. To experience and fully appreciate life in Wisconsin today\, and to make decisions that will chart the course of our future\, it is essential for Wisconsin residents and students to understand the historical role water played to shape our land\, economy\, culture and spirit.  \n\n\n\nThe exhibit will teach audiences about our relationship with water as a state. The exhibit will place many of our current concerns in a historical context and show how our state was changed over time by the force of water. SUMMARY:Wisconsin's John Muir: An Exhibit Celebrating the Centennial of the National Park Service
DESCRIPTION:Commemorate the 100th anniversary of the National Park Service by visiting the traveling display from the Wisconsin Historical Society.\n\n\n\nCommemorating the centennial of the National Park Service\, the traveling display “Wisconsin’s John Muir: An Exhibit Celebrating the Centennial of the National Park Service” explores Muir’s youth in Wisconsin\, his advocacy for national parks and his views on environmental issues such as logging\, hunting and climate change. Its eight panels share facsimiles of images and manuscripts from the Society’s library and archives alongside Muir quotes and interpretive texts. \n\n\n\nThe Muir display and reading program is funded by bequests from John A. With photos\, videoclips\, and humorous anecdotes\, the presentation establishes Wisconsin as a notably influential place: a crossroads for people who changed the world. \n\n\n\nDean Robbins is a journalist who has contributed to USA Today\, The New York Daily News\, GRAMMY magazine\, and other media outlets\, as well as serving as editor in chief of Isthmus and On Wisconsin magazine.
