SUMMARY:Wisconsin Lighthouses: A Photographic and Historical Guide
DESCRIPTION:Hear stories of Wisconsin’s maritime history with a photographic tour of Wisconsin lighthouses with authors Barb and Ken Wardius.\n\n\n\nNo symbol is more synonymous with Wisconsin’s rich maritime traditions than the lighthouse. These historic beacons conjure a bygone era: romance\, loneliness\, and dependability; dedicated keepers manning the lights; eerie tales of haunted structures and ghosts of past keepers; mariners of yesteryear anxiously hoping to make safe haven around rocky shorelines. If these sentinels could talk\, imagine the tales they would tell of ferocious Great Lakes storms taking their toll on vessels and people alike. At this event\, Barb and Ken Wardius\, co-authors of Wisconsin Lighthouses: A Photographic and Historical Guide\, tell those tales\, taking attendees on an intimate tour of lighthouses on Lake Superior\, Lake Michigan\, and Lake Winnebago. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout the Speaker\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nKen and Barb Wardius\, coauthors of Wisconsin Lighthouses: A Photographic and Historical Guide\, are lighthouse historians and photographers. They offer several lectures that highlight Wisconsin’s historical beacons. The presentations comprise stunning images\, both historic and contemporary\, in a combination of history and storytelling. Narrated live\, the shows conclude with a question and answer segment. Programs can also be tailored to your individual group. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWisconsin Historical Society Speakers Bureau\n\n\n\nThe Wisconsin Historical Society Speakers Bureau offers an exciting opportunity for our historians\, curators and authors to visit your community and share the stories of our great state. \n\n\n\n\nLearn more\n\n\n\n\nNote: For hours and other admission information\, please contact the hosting venue. \n\n\n	\n \n \n \n \n \n	\n	\n\n \n Add to calendar \n \n	\n\n \n \n \n \n \n Google Calendar \n \n \n \n iCalendar \n \n \n \n Outlook 365 \n \n \n \n Outlook Live \n \n \n \n \n \n \n	\n\n\n\n\n\n\nOrganizer\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nVenue

SUMMARY:Great Lakes Small Streams: How Water Shapes Wisconsin
DESCRIPTION:Explore this water-themed traveling display that showcases Wisconsin’s long relationship with water and the impact we have had on our waterways.\n\n\n\nIt is impossible to fully understand Wisconsin – its history\, culture and prospects for the future – without an appreciation of water’s power to create opportunities\, influence decisions and shape the events that become our shared story. To experience and fully appreciate life in Wisconsin today\, and to make decisions that will chart the course of our future\, it is essential for Wisconsin residents and students to understand the historical role water played to shape our land\, economy\, culture and spirit.  \n\n\n\nThe exhibit will teach audiences about our relationship with water as a state. The exhibit will place many of our current concerns in a historical context and show how our state was changed over time by the force of water. Visitors will see the consequences—good and bad—of past decisions and will be challenged to incorporate insights they gain into actions that can secure a more hopeful future for all of us regarding water. \n\n\n\n\n\n“Great Lakes Small Streams” on display at Wade House\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe Wisconsin Historical Society gratefully acknowledges the Herzfeld Foundation\, Wisconsin Humanities Council\, and Ralph Evinrude Foundation for their generous support of this exhibit. \n\n\n\nNote: For hours and other admission information\, please contact the hosting venue. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe Wisconsin History Makers Tour will bring history directly to local communities in every region of the state through pop-up exhibits\, object displays\, public programs\, outdoor installations\, and other activities.  \n\n\n\nThe History Makers Tour is presented by Culver’s and is made possible in part by the Institute of Museum and Library Services\, Grant Number: MA-253159-OMS-23.  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nOrganizer\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nVenue

SUMMARY:"We Like to Reel Them In" Collections Highlight
DESCRIPTION:We don’t do anything by halves! See what kind of big thinking it takes to reel in the biggest catch.\n\n\n\nBoth sturgeon spearing and ice fishing are popular wintertime activities in Wisconsin. SUMMARY:Susan Apps-Bodilly discusses Timber! A Northwoods Story of Lumberjacks\, Logging\, and the Land
DESCRIPTION:Join author Susan Apps-Bodilly to discuss Wisconsin’s logging boom and its impact on our landscape\n\n\n\nLong ago\, huge trees filled the Northwoods. In the mid-1800s\, logging camps and sawmills opened. Lumberjacks moved in. This was the beginning of the logging boom\, when millions of trees were cut to help build towns and cities. What happened after the forests were cut down? \n\n\n\nThe latest book for young readers from father-daughter duo Jerry Apps and Susan Apps-Bodilly explores the origin story of Wisconsin’s logging boom\, the damage it caused to the land\, and the extraordinary efforts to restore the cutover land and log sustainably. SUMMARY:Over Here: The Wisconsin Homefront During World War I
DESCRIPTION:Join Leslie Bellais as she discusses the ways Wisconsin citizens experienced the state’s tension-filled atmosphere during WWI.\n\n\n\nShortly after the United States entered the European War in April 1917\, Wisconsin became known as America’s “Traitor State.” Its large proportion of German citizens\, active Socialist party\, and anti-war Senator\, Robert La Follette\, helped create this perception. Some Wisconsinites sought to prove their loyalty and patriotism through sacrifice and hard work; others resorted to vigilantism. At this event\, Leslie Bellais will discuss the ways a variety of Wisconsin citizens experienced the state’s tension-filled atmosphere during the 18 months America participated in World War I. \n\n\n\n\n\nSpeaker Dr. Leslie Bellais\, Retired Curator\, Wisconsin Historical Society\n\n\n\n\n\nNote: For general hours\, admission\, and pricing\, please contact the hosting venue. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWisconsin Historical Society Speakers Bureau\n\n\n\nThe Wisconsin Historical Society Speakers Bureau offers an exciting opportunity for our historians\, curators and authors to visit your community and share the stories of our great state. \n\n\n\n\nLearn more\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nOrganizer\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nVenue
